This week, I was able to catch another episode of "My Wife and Kids". As usual, it was hilarious and delivered a meaningful message to its viewers. Since the show began airing, Jay’s weight has always been a funny topic in different episodes. It seems like no matter how much weight she loses, she's never satisfied. On this particular episode, Jay was training for an upcoming marathon. She really wanted to prove to herself that she could run the entire race without giving up. So, she asked her youngest daughter's boyfriend, Franklin, to be her trainer. Franklin, who's an absolute genius on the show, encourages her to watch what she eats and even accompanies her while she trains. Michael, however, thought it was all silly, and arrogantly predicted that he could beat his wife in the marathon, simply because he's a MAN, and because MEN have always been better athletes than women. But, it turned out that Michael's statement couldn't be any further from the truth.
Of course, Jay took exception to Michael's chauvinistic opinion, and decided to make a friendly bet. If Michael won, Jay had to admit that MEN are better athletes than women. But, if Jay won, Michael had to give her whatever she wanted, within reason, of course. Jay, who desperately wanted to prove Michael wrong, ferociously trained everyday. On the other hand, Michael's arrogance allowed him to do absolutely NO training because he was a MAN and would easily beat any WOMAN in a race. Then again, on the day of the marathon, Michael would regret being so cocky.
Once the marathon began, Michael immediately fell to the back. Jay easily passed him, along with a one-legged man, a man walking on his hands, and men twice his age. But, Michael's pride wouldn't allow him to be embarrassed in such a way. Coincidently, a cab happened to be dropping someone off right next to the bench that Michael had collapsed on a few miles into the race. So, being the quick thinker that he is, Michael hopped in, and ended up beating Jay to the finish line!!
To make a long story short, Jay knew Michael had cheated, but she couldn't figure out how. She knew there was no way he could catch up to her once she passed him, and saw that he was struggling so early into the race. Eventually Michael admitted that he'd taken a cab, and begged Jay for her forgiveness. Then, as he had agreed to in the bet, Michael asked Jay what she wanted for winning. He expected her to ask for money, but, instead, she told Michael that all she wanted was for him to train hard with her next year so that they could run the marathon together!! To me, the moral of the story was: if you work hard, you can do anything, regardless of age, color, or SEX!!
